There is a plenty to see and do in Turkey, making it a traveler’s paradise. The most popular time of year for travellers to travel to Turkey is between June and October. The best time to visit some of Turkey’s treasures is during the winter when there are less tourists and less heat. Some of the greatest spots to visit in Turkey in December are the ski resorts, iced lakes, glacial mountains, and ski areas. Turkey’s countryside offers far too many sites to experience, in contrast to most countries where tourists swarm to the metropolis. In addition to Istanbul and Ankara, other sites to visit in Turkey in December include Kara, Ani, Ephesus, Cappadocia, and Selçuk. Let’s spotlight the most popular tourist places in turkey.
Blue Mosque
The hand painted blue tiles that cover the mosque’s elaborately detailed walls gave it the nickname “Blue Mosque.” The mosque, one of the best tourist places in turkey, appears magnificent at night when it is lit in blue. Ahmed I, the first Ottoman emperor, ordered the construction of the mosque, also known as Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish, at the beginning of the 17th century. It is worthwhile to see the king’s tomb, a place for prayer, and a madrasa, or Islamic institution.
Hagia Sophia
The largest structure in the world at the time it was constructed was the Greek Orthodox Church. One of the top locations to visit in Turkey in December, it has long been an architectural marvel for the entire world. The Ottoman emperors transformed the church into a mosque in the 15th century, replacing the Christian characteristics with Islamic religious architecture.

Topkapi Palace Museum
The Topkapi Palace was constructed in the fifteenth century as an administrative centre and remained a palace of residence for the Sultans of succeeding generations for 380 long years. Some of the highlights of the Topkapi Palace include the circumcision room for crowned princes, the felicity gate, the library of King Ahmet III, and the Harem with its elaborate architecture created with gold inlays.
Basilica Cistern
Turkey has a historical site called the Basilica Cistern or Sunken Palace – one of the most popular tourist places in turkey. It is one of the two cisterns that were constructed in the sixth century to provide water for the Byzantine palace and the inhabitants of Istanbul and are still accessible to tourists. There are more than a hundred of these underground water reservoirs that the city used, but only the Basilica Cistern and the Theodosius Cistern, of which the former is the larger, can be visited.
Galata Tower
The Tower of Christ, a beautiful example of Byzantine architecture, was constructed in the fourteenth century. It was about 220 feet tall at the time and Istanbul’s highest building. During the Ottoman Empire, it served as a lookout tower for spotting forest fires. Today, the tower gives a stunning panorama over the Turkish peninsula. Visitors can use the elevators that are available inside the tower to access the top floors.
