Cappadocia, which means “land of beautiful horses,” is most renowned for its unusual lunar scenery, underground cities, cave cathedrals, and hot air balloon rides. It is located in Turkey’s central Anatolian area. Direct flights from Istanbul to Kayseri, Cappadocia, take around 1.5 hours, or you can take an overnight bus from Istanbul that takes about 11 hours.
The Cappadocia area, one of most popular tourist destinations in Turkey, became the destination for many who took advantage of the Republic Day and weekend holiday combination. The number of people staying in the area has surpassed 100 percent. “As regional tradesmen, we are happy with the result,” Talip Aldemir, chairman of TÜRSAB Regional Representative Board, remarked.
With the Republic Day celebration on October 29, the Cappadocia region, which attracts a large number of local tourists, especially on weekends in September, became one of the busiest. Early in the morning, some tourists went on hot air balloon tours in Goreme resort, whereas others took photos of the fairy chimneys.

The filling of the foreign market is also caught in the domestic market, according to Talip Aldemir, chairman of the Regional Representative Board of the Association of Travel Agencies of Turkey (TÜRSAB).
“Cappadocia, its density in the foreign market has now become one of the regions sought after in the domestic market. We have a near 100% occupancy rate on Republic Day on October 29th. Balloon tours are full, our regional tours and activities are carried out in a summer occupancy on Republic Day. As regional tradesmen, we are pleased with the result. During the Republic Day holiday period, we experienced 100 percent occupancy in hotel capacities and all of our activity areas were filled.”
Visitors from Istanbul, Adana, Mersin, Ankara, Izmir, and the surrounding provinces claimed that Cappadocia is a great place to visit for nature, but that the region is congested. A large number of visitors gathered at the entrances to the museums and ruins, causing long lines to purchase tickets. Vehicle traffic on the Goreme-Urgup connecting route brought attention.
