The effort to introduce the area where the remnants of historical life are located to tourists and to place it under protection has begun, according to Haberal, who also completed route construction in the canyon region. Haberal claimed that Kastamonu University, which offers specialised programmes in the fields of forestry and nature tourism, has begun to work in this area and has taken steps to promote Saltuklu Canyon as a tourist destination.
According to lecturer Hikmet Haberal, who claimed that there is a canyon in the village of Dir in the Kastamonu province’s Araç district and that he has learnt that this canyon has never been crossed before, “There is a canyon in the village of Dir in the Araç district. It was previously referred to as “Jibish.” On the shared border of Saltuklu village and Oycal village, there is a canyon there. While visiting this canyon, we had planned it as one of my objectives. There are fortifications, castle walls, Ottoman graves, caves, two sizable mills, a historical caravan route connecting two villages, a historical bridge that facilitates intercultural exchange between the two villages, and numerous vegetation within the canyon.
Haberal pointed out that they crossed the Saltuklu canyon with three hours of challenging and fearful moments in a high way and said:
“Together with our friends, we made an incredible 3-hour canyon crossing where very beautiful and challenging, exciting adrenaline-high fearful moments were experienced. We have achieved incredible magnificent visuals and beauties. We recorded amazing views. Saltuklu Canyon was crossed for the first time within the framework of our adventure route.”
